Fast approaching is another lovely Bank Holiday in the United Kingdom! It also happens to be the first one of two in May 2018 so I reckon, even more of an excuse to take a short break or holiday and make optimum use of a free day off.
The weather throughout the UK has been less than pleasant until now during 2018 but the forecast is looking good, looking warm and sunny up here in the Lake District as well as for many in the rest of country.
With Easter being drab and cold, May Day Bank Holiday is the chance to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. The Lake District is celebrating its irst May Day Ban Hliday as a UNESCO World Heritage Site so it and the country of Cumbria should be THE destination of choice for an early late May getaway.
Many hotels including those in the hot spots of Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere still have availability and some great, late offers for two and three night breaks too. Windermere is an excellent destination, centrally located for exploring but plenty to do should the typical British and Lake District weather get hold. Windermere Village is fast becoming a destination for foodies from breakfast to brunch, snacks and evening dining thanks to a great choice of hotel restaurants, cafes and bars and award winning pies which can be found at the local butchers.
There is a huge amount going on this spring bank holiday weekend in and around Windermere including events and sightseeing at nearby Coniston and Ambleside. And of course there’s always a cruise up and down Lake Windermere and the 365 day a year attraction the fells open for walking. Our accommodation tip is Applegarth Villa Hotel & Restaurant in the centre of Windermere with views, private hot tubs and secure, free off road parking.
